Hello and welcome to Beyond Diagnosis, a podcast created to raise your awareness, decisions, and voice around alternative practices, so you can take back control of your health.
I’m Rita De Michele, your host, mindset and empowerment coach, and founder of the Onus platform. Join me each week so you can create the health of your dreams.
What Is a Medical Intuitive?
Michelle:
A medical intuitive is someone who understands a little bit about physiology, or something we can hold scientifically, test, or measure.
Then you add the intuitive aspect.
In my case, and in how I interpret my abilities, I can also read the energy of a situation.
The medical profession, as we know it today, formed around 150 to 200 years ago. It uses the scientific method to ask questions and answer those questions.
What I find interesting about science is that it is cumulative. What we thought of as science 10 years ago has been updated. New findings continue to emerge.
For example, we now understand more about the microbiome and epigenetics.
Understanding Energy
Rita De Michele:
That is amazing.
For people who do not know, what do you mean by someone’s energy? How do you tap into someone’s energy?
Michelle:
First and foremost, I never tap into someone’s energy without permission.
Our energy is the vibration created by how we think, believe, and feel. It is also affected by how our different systems are working, either in harmony or out of harmony.
I think about the chakra system. We have seven major chakras that align along the spine.
When someone is speaking to me, I read the energy through that field, and I listen to what is being said.
Some people can see energy. Some people can hear energy. Some people can sense energy. Others have a knowing. Some people have all of those.
My most established intuitive ability is a deep knowing. It feels very different from my linear thoughts.
When I am using my brain, one thought leads me to the next. This knowing feels different.
Combining the Chakra System and the Body
Michelle:
That is how I combine the two.
I often work within the chakra system because it is easy for people to understand.
If I talk about the solar plexus, people can understand where that is. They can understand that it involves the digestive organs because we can picture it.
Rita De Michele:
Most people know chakras now. It is quite common.
And if they do not, it is easy to look up and understand.
Michelle:
Exactly.
It is hard to unpack it very succinctly, but there is Western science involved in the body’s systems.
There are 12 main systems of the body, or 13, depending on who you ask. Some people also include the circadian system.
Then Chinese medicine talks in terms of seasons and different energetic patterns.
Blocked Energy and Emotional Release
Michelle:
Sometimes something is cast off. Something is pushed down. We do not want to show it.
It can create what I sometimes describe as a kink in the hose.
That is one way I talk about energy work and working with the body’s channels.
It is fascinating because sometimes I can see the channels opening while we do the work. Sometimes the person can feel it.
Then a rush happens. It can feel like an epiphany.
Someone may hear the right word, and suddenly something opens.
Opening the Blinders
Michelle:
The more people investigate, the more they see.
Imagine blinders. If the blinders are very close, you do not have the full picture.
That does not necessarily mean you have poor vision. It means your blinders are not fully open.
I work with some people who are mediums and receive messages. I also work with people who have no intuitive abilities opened yet, but they are completely open.
Then I have worked with mediums who are actually quite closed and believe only they have the answer.
How a Session Begins
Michelle:
Sometimes people may be able to access what they need on their own, and sometimes they may not.
We often do a guided meditation. I hold a distinct vibration, and I may ask questions.
Other times, people can feel it without any question.
Usually, someone comes to me with a specific symptom or diagnosed condition. We start there, because that is often what they want to heal.
Sometimes, when we heal something, it opens the energy. Sometimes opening the energy helps us heal something.
The Nervous System and the Endocrine System
Michelle:
I really believe that if someone is only looking at the nervous system, they are only looking at half the equation.
All systems of the body work in tandem. They are intimately connected.
You cannot heal one system on its own.
When I work with people, especially women in the women’s health sphere, and especially women between 40 and 60, we are never just looking at one system.
The nervous system is resilient, but because it is electric, it can become dysregulated more easily than the endocrine system.
When you work with the nervous system and endocrine system together, you are working with both yang and yin energy.
Especially for women at this stage of life, nourishing the yin helps balance the yang.
Rita De Michele:
So, if your endocrine system is out of balance, that can affect your nervous system.
When Symptoms Are Dismissed
Rita De Michele:
Some people are told, “It is all in your head.”
I firmly believe that is not a good enough answer. To me, that means the practitioner does not know what it is, or does not know how to look for it.
When you approach health through discovery, there is usually something to explore.
Is that the type of client who comes to you?
Michelle:
My clients tend to fall into three categories.
That is certainly one of them, and it is an important one.
I think that is changing because more doctors and practitioners are becoming aware that symptoms can have deeper layers.
Where Functional Medicine Can Still Fall Short
Michelle:
Sometimes people are given a protocol with several supplements, or even a dozen supplements.
It is still often geared toward finding the cause and prescribing something.
In my experience, that is where we can fall short.
It is not always A plus B equals C.
There is often an emotional or spiritual component to the physical body. That is why I work within the chakra system.
The chakra system also works with the body’s systems and nerve plexuses.
Nerves have feeling. We feel through our nerves.
Chronic Illness, Trauma, and Intuitive Gifts
Michelle:
Another group of clients are people who have been to everyone and are getting sicker and sicker.
With that group, and I am generalising here because everyone is unique, there is often intense trauma in their past.
At the same time, they can be quite gifted.
The work is often about marrying the two. It is about understanding the trauma while also recognising the gifts.
The Vagus Nerve
Rita De Michele:
Our brains are connected to various parts of our body that give us clues and cues.
One example is the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve is the biggest nerve in the body. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve.
Can you explain to our listeners what the vagus nerve is and where it is?
Michelle:
The vagus nerve goes down the neck and branches into two.
It sits above the diaphragm and connects to the digestive system.
That is part of why the gut is often called the second brain.
Psychology, Psychiatry, and Energy Work
Rita De Michele:
If someone feels emotionally fragile, depressed, or anxious, they may see a psychologist.
That is often working more with the mental or emotional side.
Is there a distinction between that approach and yours?
Michelle:
Psychology and psychiatry are two different fields, at least in America, so I am speaking from that context.
I do not necessarily think talk therapy heals the brain.
I think it works with how someone perceives something and whether they can see it in a different way.
When I work with people, I work with how the brain and gut function.
What moves the needle quickly is understanding that we are both the receiver and the perceiver of our reality.
I did not coin that phrase. My mentor Joanna Hunter uses it.
Rita De Michele:
I love that.
Michelle:
We receive information, and we perceive it.
We may love being admired. We may love abundance. Those things are wonderful, but they are not essential.
What is essential is how we perceive our reality.
Rita De Michele:
Absolutely.
Energy, Vitality, and Frequency
Rita De Michele:
You talk about helping people have energy and vitality for the rest of their lives.
Are those some of the outcomes someone can expect from working with you?
Michelle:
Yes.
When I use words like vitality and energy, I mean something deeper.
Your presence, or your arc field, interacts with another person’s arc field.
When you have healed something within yourself, that healing can affect others. Sometimes the idea of how you healed can even come into another person’s awareness.
That is how powerful we are as human beings.
When I say vitality and energy, I mean that when we heal ourselves, our vibration and frequency shift.
We begin to emanate something powerful from within ourselves.
Rita De Michele:
So, in simple terms, it is like operating at a higher frequency.
People want to be around you. You light up people’s lives. Your eyes shine.
Is that the physical representation of what you are saying?
Michelle:
Definitely, as long as we are not just talking about personality.
I would elaborate by asking: are dogs attracted to you? Are young children drawn to you?
That can reflect a person’s energetic field.
Myths About Healing
Michelle:
One of the myths is that it takes a long time to heal something.
In my experience, that is not always the case.
A woman in my free Facebook group recently wrote a testimonial after an hour-long session. We moved so much energy, and she felt set for the month.
It does not always take a lot.
The more you do the work, the faster it moves.
It is like the law of incrementals and the law of momentum.
When you first start learning a language, you start slowly. Then, as you keep going, the momentum builds.
The same can happen with healing.
Another myth is that you need to go to a specialist and get a diagnosis before you can understand what is happening.
You can gather a lot of labels, or you can begin the inner work and not over-identify with those labels.
Women, Power, and the Shift in Culture
Michelle:
I believe we are moving out of a wounded masculine-dominated society and into a more feminine society.
However, I want that to be a divine feminine, not a wounded feminine.
Part of this shift is about women learning to feel empowered and beautiful in their bodies at every age.
We need to move out of youth culture, where youth and thinness are overly idolised.
Three Practices to Begin With
1. Quiet Contemplation
Michelle:
The first thing I would suggest is an active adventure into quiet.
Turn off the podcast. Put the phone down. Take off the headphones.
Find quiet contemplation within yourself.
I know that may cause some eye rolls, but if you can learn to enjoy your quiet, you can learn to tap into your inner core channel.
That channel runs through the centre of your seven major chakras.
2. Support Your Circadian Rhythm
Michelle:
The second thing is supporting your circadian system.
That can help your sleep, digestion, and elimination.
It can also connect you to your inner knower, or your intuitive gifts.
3. Hydration and Minerals
Michelle:
The third thing is hydration.
It sounds simple, but many women do not drink enough water or get enough minerals.
Minerals are co-factors for hundreds of important downstream processes in the body.
Be Still, Curious, and Open to Guidance
Michelle:
If you have a symptom, sit with it.
Ask open-ended questions.
For example, “Isn’t this interesting? My head is hurting right now. I wonder what this is about?”
Then listen for guidance.
When we ask open-ended questions, we invite guidance. We create space to be led.
The second step is to collect data.
For example, I work with many women who experience migraines. Sometimes migraines are severe. Other times, someone may have dull headaches but not notice them because they are used to being in pain.
Track your symptoms.
Ask when they happen. Ask how severe they are. Ask whether any intuitive guidance has come through about what they may be connected to.
Then we go from there.
Rita De Michele:
My takeaway from that is to learn to be still, curious, and not numb ourselves.
Michelle, thank you so much for educating our audience.
